Phone booths lost its popularity when cellphones were introduced. And then a smart phone came. However, not everyone in the city owns a smart phone. Maybe they can't afford it or they're just not into the whole techy life. Whatever the reason, the city decided to do those people a favor by adding a iPad-like touchscreen device to 12,800 dull phone booths in the city of New York. This device provides useful information like directions and local news. It is going to have more features like Wi-Fi hotspots with email and Skype capabilities in the future. I personally think they're just wasting money though. I see the convenience and all but not many people have time to stand around in the middle of the city to look into stuff like that.
