Gosu Gadget takes a closer look: LG 55LM9600

LG OLED TV and Samsung OLED TV has been the hot topic the last few weeks but what about the other TVs that were introduce during CES. Outshined, but not undone, I believe they deserve a lot more attention than they are receiving.
2012 LG 55LM9600

Here’s  one of the most underrated TVs of the CES 2012 Show.  The 55LM9600. This TV is absolutely gorgeous, implementing the cinema style screen seen on the LG OLED TV. The bezel is a near perfect 0.9mm thin with the all-new chrome look with its newly designed TV stand. I would rate this TV even higher than Samsung’s SUPER OLED as far as looks go.

The 55LM9600 is no pushover. This  TV is a full array Nano LED Cinema 3D Smart TV. This TV might make you think LG has focused on nothing but the design, but this baby packs a punch. It is powered by a Dual-Core chipset which LG claims more than double the speed of previous models. No more slow-loading apps. The new LG Smart TV platform has also been redesigned, giving off more of that oomph.  This TV also comes with a all-new  4-mode magic remote. The remote has a voice recognition feature which allows you to control your TV using your voice. There is also a gesture feature which allows you to change the channels with the swipe of your hand.  Pretty cool huh?

2011 LG Smart TV *Old

2012 LG Smart TV *New

This TV is set to be released in March 2012 along with the new 2012 Cinema 3D glasses Pricing details have not yet been released but one can assume it’s going to be significantly less than the LG OLED TV.

LG + Alain Mikli & Oakley = 3D Sunglasstic

LG has teamed up with Alain Mikli & Oakley to come up with several new designs for their passive 3D glasses. The stylish polarized lens design seems to give a much needed jolt in the design department for LG’s visually challenged LG 3D TV accessories. Some of the new designs include a wireframe, thick-frame, and Gucci-style stunner shades that would impress even the likes of Tom Ford.  I sure hope these styles are here to stay while the old bulky ones get phased out. These sunglasses will be available from April 2012 along with LG’s new line up of LED TVs.  Can’t wait.

A look into OLED technology by GosuGadget

Ok, so the news has been OLED this, Super OLED that, well let’s get into detail what OLED really is.

OLED, short for ‘Organic Light Emitting Diode’ is a new flat light emitting technology that can be used to make displays & without the use of a backlight and therefore are thinner and more efficient than LCD displays.

OLED made up by placing a series of organic (carbon based) thin films between two conductors and layer of organic semiconductor material is situated between two electrodes. One of these electrodes is transparent generally; as soon as the electric current applies to them a bright light is emitted. An OLED can either be used Passive-Matrix (PMOLED) and Active-Matrix (AMOLED).

PMOLED stick to a limited size and resolution but, it’s easier & cheaper to make than an AMOLED.PMOLED do not use a storage capacitor & uses a simple control scheme in which you control each row or line in the display sequentially one at a time. Whereas, AMOLED contain a storage capacitor that maintain the line pixel states. AMOLED can be made much larger displays than PMOLED as they are not bounded with size & resolution (unlike PMOLED).

As we discussed earlier that OLED display work without a backlight, thus, it can display deep black levels and can be thinner & lighter than the liquid crystal display (LCD). In low light ambient conditions like a proper dark room an OLED screen can achieve high resolution contrast ratio than LCDs. As for now this new light emitting technology cost beyond our expectation, it’s too costly than any other lighting technology invented yet. According to various web sources it takes at least two more years to come down its price like LCD or LED.

LG 55-inch OLED TV

Recently LG has announced to launch its first OLED based TV in U.S. market sometimes in the second half of 2012. LG is working on its 55” EM9600 OLED TV model told by LG’s spokesman in a press conference. He also stated that EM9600 model has a unique spin on technology means LG is using a white pixel to produce a bright light at low cost while Samsung were following the RGB pixels i.e. (Red, Green & Blue). Price of this large size OLED model still in queue as it’s not disclosed by LG yet.

Consumer Electronic show 2012 is over: Standout Products? LG and Samsung, by far

The world biggest association of consumer electronics CEA held the international CES on 10-13 January 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More than 3,100 exhibitors and 153,000 people were present from all over the world. More than 20,000 new products were launched at the 2012 CES.  New technology came into light in the form of  3D printers, ultra books, Android 4.0 tablets, next generation smart phones. However despite all the great innovative gadgets we have seen, the spotlight was on the  OLED TVs presented by LG and Samsung.

Samsung “Super OLED TV” launch was the most innovative technology in this CES 2011. "Super OLED TV” has a 0.3-inch depth (8.4 mm), which is certainly slim enough. It also integrated a face recognition system by attaching a camera to the top of the TV. However creative this may seem, a camera facing me while I'm watching TV isn't very attractive for me.

On the other end of the spectrum, LG has launched a 3.9mm thick OLED TV that uses a color filter to enhance its colors and brightness. This TV was the most beautifully designed model I have seen. It looked like something straight off of Star Trek. Aside from the regular smart functions, this TV had a voice recognition system built into the magic remote and had a gesture control system which allowed the user to change channels / menu functions with the wave of the hand, very high tech.

With all that went down at 2012 CES, my mind is blank on what 2013 CES would bring. Who knows. Innovation can only go so far, or is it that our human minds can only handle so much advancement in technology at once. Let's wait and see.

Samsung's OLED at CES is good, but not "Super"

I was recently at the CES show last weekend in Vegas and saw that the biggest talk of the show were the OLED TVs from Samsung and LG. I’m going to give you my take on the Samsung “SUPER” OLED TV.

This TV was sure pretty, expected in a company always in top form when it comes to design. This TV boasted a 8mm thickness with a super thin bezel. The colors were vivid however the TV was slightly behind LG’s version of the OLED TV in terms of picture quality and design. I honestly believe there was nothing “Super” about it compared to the LG model. For me, the LG model took home the prize with the Best TV of CES 2012. Samsung’s OLED hits the ball but not out of the park. B+ at best.

Google should change their name to FOOLgle

It seems like Google has crossed the line this time, all in an effort to somehow thwart the advancement of its nearest rival company, Facebook. Our privacy has been compromised, jeopardizing any form of loyalty created through serving the globe with a standard of internet service 99.9 % of companies fail to emulate. All of this done overnight with a single update of their new search engine platform. Searches on google will now be personalized according to the user’s google + social network. From a marketing perspective, not only is this a cheap shot move to siphon and deter millions of people from its rival company, Google is telling the world, “Your privacy costs too much”.

“Criticism of Google's new social search function ramped up on Thursday, with a prominent privacy watchdog group suggesting the U.S. Federal Trade Commission should investigate the company over privacy and antitrust concerns.

Google introduced big changes to its search function earlier this week, when it began incorporating content from the company's social networking site, Google+, into search results.

For Google+ users, who may number between 40 million and 60 million, search results will now be customized to their particular interests and will include photos and comments from their Google+ connections. The new function, called 'Search Plus Your World', is being marketed as an improved search method that will tailor results to each individual.

But not everyone is enthused about the move. On a statement on its website, Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) criticized Google for changing search results to favor its content and raised concerns about the impact on consumer privacy.” Melissa Jeltsen, Huffington Post

I believe today is the beginning of the downfall of Google, the resurrection of Yahoo, and the rise of Bing.

LG's Magic Remote just became more Magical

Ok.  If the innovative 2011 version of LG’s magic remote wasn’t cool enough, LG sure has their engineers working around the clock to make sure complaints are oppressed before even thought up.  LG has decided to mix the mini keyboard with the Magic Motion remote gesture control it released at CES. This plan will further increase the capabilities of the already advanced remote.  As you can see in the pics, this remote is clearly different visually than the old magic remote. We'll have to wait a few more months before we can actually test it out.  :)

LG creates the World's Best TV

Enough already! LCD, Plasma, LED?, We needed something totally new for all the techaholics and LG is hitting the G spot with their 4mm thick, 55 inch OLED TV, no pun intended. The paper-thin display is the World’s slimmest TV, nothing else comes close. LG plans to release the 55” OLED display on the 10th in Las Vegas during the 2012 CES event.

This TV boasts a four color system of RGB (Red, Green, Blue) and white through organic light-emitting diodes. This allows for “true blacks”, which means the OLED diodes will show the deep blacks by just simply not lighting up.  Aside from the brilliant picture is the sleekest Rembrandt-like design with almost 0 bezel. This TV doesn’t even have to be on to wow on-lookers. The only downside of this masterpiece is, well you guessed it, the price. Rumor has it to fall somewhere in the range of $10,000. No worries, I’m sure we can indulge on can foods and skip the coffee during lunch until its scheduled release date, July.
