iPhone 5 new taller screen leaked

There has been rumors that the next generation of iPhone, or iPhone 5, will be taller than the current iPhone. This leak shows that the rumor is true. In the video below, Japanese site Macotakara shows a 4.07 inch screen on top of the iPhone 4S. It has a very similar shape, actually almost exactly the same, except it's obviously longer and the front camera is now positioned in the top middle.

55-inch LG OLED TV steals the show at WIS 2012

Last January, the 55-inch LG OLED TV won the "Best of CES" award at the Vegas event. At the World iT Show 2012, it was no different. The OLED TV was shown on a wall mount as well as a TV stand, both indicating the possible layouts for the TV.

Check out the videos + pics below:

Windows 8 Release Preview on May 31st

Few days ago, a Chinese version of the Windows 8 preview was leaked. This means that Microsoft is almost ready for the latest preview. According to The Next Web, the Windows 8 Release Preview will be available on May 31st and the update will be released in the first week of June. In the release preview, we'll be seeing the Flash in Metro-based version of Internet Explorer 10.

For those of you who don't know, there's a lot of great new features to expect in Windows 8. Microsoft completely changed Windows this time and I knew it was about time. With all the new tech coming out, the current Microsoft's theme isn't gonna cut it. I like these changes but I just wish they would give us some time to at least get used to it before bringing up something new.

Your PC will soon learn to be quiet

I know lot of people are like me where you can't stand your computer making those loud whirring noise coming from the cooling fans. One time, I had a computer that had the loudest cooling fan ever, like it literally woke up my roommate every time I turned it on. If any of you guys are on the same boat, worry no more because an Austrian company, Noctua, is about to debut a noise-cancelling cooling fan. This Noctua NF-F12 model is using noise control technology from RotoSub and will be shown in Taipei as a prototype.

Best HDTV of 2012 So Far?

It has been a wild  first half in 2012. There has been a lot of buzz in the HDTV department thanks to many new additions in technology from Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Vizio, and many other companies. OLED TVs, Smart TVs, Crystal LED TVs, 3D technology all have caught our attention but there has been one TV out of the bunch that stood out the most.
LG 55" LM7600

I consider this TV the absolute best TV so far of 2012. Sure there are many other TVs that can outperform this TV in one particular aspect but when compared to its overall performance, value, design, and price, the LG LM7600 IMO stands on its own.

Specs

-Resolution: 1920x1080p
-Display Type: LED
-3D Type: Passive
-Smart TV capability: Yes
-CPU: Dual-Core
-Hz rating: 240Hz
-Local Dimming: Yes
-No of HDMI ports: 4
-Speaker System: 1 Way 2 Speakers
-Audio Output: 10W+10W

-Price: $2099.99 as of May 31, 2012 (Best Buy)

Extra Features
-3D Depth Control: Allows the user to control the depth of 3D--more pop or vice versa.
-3D Viewpoint Control: Allows the user to control the distance between the image and the background.
-3D Sound Zooming: Creates sound depth --allowing certain sounds to be in sync with movement on screen.
-Dual Play: During multiplayer games, this feature allows users to see two complete separate images on the whole TV screen with the use of special Dual Play Glasses. Information on how to make these (if you dont want to buy them) can be found here.

The LM7600 is a beautiful TV from all angles inside and outside. What I mean by inside is that the 2012 LG Smart TV has been completely redesigned, making the Viera and Samsung platforms look very outdated, as you can see here. The apps run extra smooth and with the edition of LG's content store and Hulu Plus, content is never in question.
Courtesy of FlatpanelsHD

The 2D picture quality is good for the price you pay and Ramsus Larsen, Owner of FlatpanelsHD had the black levels tested to a cool 0.08 cd/m2, which is extremely low for an IPS based LCD-LED TV. 3D is the shining point however. Those who were marveled at passive 3D in 2011 will be even more impressed. The level of 3D the LM7600 gives coupled with the price of its cinema 3D glasses gives a heavy boost in pushing for the standardization of 3D technology for HDTV sets.

Mega Deals to end the First Half of 2012

I decided to check the price of different electronics products to see how the 2011 models stack up vs the 2012 models and found some crazy deals you all should know about.

HDTV

47" LG LW6500 series 3D LED TV

This TV was LG's first full array 3D LED TV featuring local dimming. The TV has received great reviews last year and was PC Worlds #1 performaning 3D TV for 2011. The TV has a 240Hz rating, Smart TV platform, magic motion remote, and TruMotion technology. The TV is a passive 3D set and comes with at least four cinema 3D glasses.

I found a crazy deal here. It is on sale brand-new for $1,179 which I think is absolutely crazy considering how great this TV performs and what it was priced last year. This TV should be priced at around $1700-1800 and even then it out performs many of the 2012 3D LED TVs out right now. You should check it out.

Smart Phone

Motorola ATRIX 2

I am one tough customer to impress when it comes to smart phones. Not even Apple was able to  WOO me with their iPhone 4s. Only two phones impressed me last year, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and this phone here, the Motorola ATRIX 2. This smart phone was released last October 2011 and it still packs a punch. Heck this phone still owns smart phones that are being released right now.

Not only does the ATRIX 2 have a fine display (256 ppi) @ 4.3 inches, it also runs on the famous A9 dual-core processor. This phone also has an 8MP camera on the back and can record 1080p videos @ 24fps. In case you're wondering why recording at 1080p is so special when there are phones recording at 1080p @30 fps, well the answer is 3D. This phone is capable of viewing/recording 3D videos. Kinda like having a LG 3D TV as a phone. The price, a mere $329 at Amazon.

Tablet

Coby Kyros 7-inch Tablet

With the new Apple iPad getting most of the spotlight in 2012, people have less attentive towards other brands. Coby had a 7-inch tablet selling for $179.99. Well now its even priced lower @ $124.99 @ Amazon.

This tablet is all power running on Android 4.0. It comes with a built-in camera and  has many options including  a $10 7"tablet stand with USB keyboard.

Well that concludes the first half of Gosu Gadget's HOT DEAL's post for 2012. I'll keep you guys posted.

How to use the Youtube App on LG smart TV

I have been getting numerous requests to make a tutorial on how to use the Youtube app on LG's Smart TV. So here it is. I'm not going to write the step-by-step here, the video should provide better instruction.  If you have any questions or if this doesn't answer yours, just message me.

LG's 440 ppi phone better than retina display

Apple thought they had it with their 330 ppi Retina Display but nope, LG has gone farther than that. LG announced their full HD LCD smartphone with 5 inch display and 440 ppi pixel density. They used the AH IPS technology which is the Advanced High Performance In Plane Switching on this device. The AH IPS allows wider viewing angles, better brightness and provides similar feel to that of HDTVs and HD computer monitors. With 16:9 aspect ratio and its 2.2 times denser pixels than previous 4.5 inch HD panels, this 440 ppi phone's screen resolution is far superior to its competitors. Not only has the quality improved, but LG made it energy efficient - this screen uses less power than other displays. LG will be releasing this panel in the second half of the year.

Samsung's S Voice leaked for other Android devices

Recently, Samsung has released the Galaxy S III with a few innovative features and of course as greedy human beings we are, we will want those features even if we don't own the device. Galaxy S III's firmware was leaked before the actual release of the device. The leaked ROM couldn't be flashed to other devices but developers had found a way around it to get the APK for some of its features.

If you're an iPhone user, you may not be happy when you hear this. One of the first features to get leaked was the S Voice. The S Voice is like Siri on iPhone 4S and as you all know, the iPhone 4S didn't have much upgrade other than speed and the voice assistant app, Siri, and a lot of hackers worked real hard to get Siri on their iPhone 4. However, the S Voice isn't as friendly as Siri. For example, you can't have a casual conversation with S Voice where Siri can respond to remarks like "I'm hungry".

World iT Show 2012 Wrap Up

Front Entrance to the WIT 2012 Event held at the COEX center in Seoul

I was in Seoul recently for business and happened to be there just in time to stop by the WIS 2012 show. It is basically a show similar to CES, only its held in Korea. The event itself was fantastic. Lots of booths from the major players like LG, Samsung, Sony, however this event allowed many smaller manufacturers not very known to the world to shine with their new gadgets.

Check out the pics below:

To get a ticket, one must first fill out an application and personal information. To get the special pass, one must provide proof of business with a business card.
Gosu Gadget coming through as always.
Many of the smaller companies had small booths.

Finger found in a sandwich

At Arby's in Michigan, a 14 year-old boy Ryan Hart was surprised by a finger in his roast beef sandwich. He said that he knew it was a finger the moment he took a bite into his burger. Not long before the incident, one of the employees at Arby's had to go to the emergency because she accidentally cut her finger with a meat slicer while preparing the meal. The other workers at the restaurant weren't informed of the injury and continued to complete the order, and that's when the finger slipped into the burger.

John Gray, Arby's vice president of corporate communications, showed his concern and apology regarding this incident. He also stated that Arby's wants to reassure other customers that they are committed to providing quality food in a safe and healthy environment and that they will take extra caution.

What's even more surprising is that this isn't the first time body parts of human have been found in a fast food meal. Although, this incident seems to be the worst so far. Even if fast foods are considered a low class meal, sanitary is mandatory in any kind of food that people eat.

Remember to backup all your files

Pixar, one of the highly known film company for animated movies, is telling us why you should always remember to backup everything. In the middle of Toy Story 2 production stage, there was an incident that almost made the whole movie disappear. Pixar uses Linux and Unix machines and there's this command called rm* command that erases everything. And guess what? Someone ran that command on a drive where all the Toy Story 2 files were stored. Next thing you know, all the work disappeared in approximately 20 seconds. People weren't so worried at first because they thought they had it all backed up. It turns out, the files weren't backed up right and they were now left with nothing. However, Pixar was unbelievably fortunate because one of the workers had the whole thing saved in her desktop at home.

If that story touched you, I suggest stopping by your local electronics store tonight and getting yourself a nice hard drive or any type of memory storage of your preference. You may end up thanking me in the future for this courtesy reminder.

Mind-controlled robot helps disabled people

Scientists from Brown University got together and formed a research group and created a robot, also known as the Swiss robot, which is operated with a human mind. This particular research group previously performed an experiment where the subjects move a mouse cursor with their minds.

What's nice about robotics is, with today's technology it is possible to create a robot to give disabled people a complete mobility to live everyday lives with no problem. The Swiss robot was tested on subjects who are permanently paralyzed. This subjects' brain was already used to the disability and they were able to do certain things they wouldn't normally be able to do.

Diablo III released

Good news, folks. The long waited Diablo III is now released! The Diablo III is Amazon's most pre-ordered game of all time and it's because there is a lot to expect from it. The Diablo III is completely different from Diablo II. From the graphics to each individual characters, Diablo III has made a lot of improvements. However, there also seems to be a few disappointments that may come up.

There are claims that the PvP system has been delayed in the Diablo III. I personally don't see any problems with it though because since everybody's starting fresh, there shouldn't be any need for PvP yet. Another thing is that its graphic art isn't really something that players have been waiting for. It's obviously not horrible, it's great but it doesn't really suit the game "Diablo". Blizzard did intend to go completely different way from Diablo II but it may have been a failed attempt. Nobody can't claim that for sure yet because we haven't had the chance to get used to the new interface and the graphics.

Having said that, everything looks insanely amazing and I'm not a huge fan of video games but I'm definitely purchasing Diablo III.

Panasonic teaming up with Sony for OLED?

Sony, after discontinuing its partnership with Samsung last year, is hoping to speed up the process of its OLED production by working with Panasonic. They believe their cooperation will lead to a great success by sharing each other's designs and techniques such as Panasonic's method of OLED printing that doesn't cause a $9,000 price tag. However, we can't be so sure of any form of partnership emerging between these two companies.

Another sign of conflict between Apple and Google

According to 9to5Mac, Apple will not be carrying Google Maps in the next iOS. This action was quite predictable since Apple is a competitor of Google, creator of Android and they have been trying to get rid of Google technology for quite a few time. Apple has already removed Google Maps in iPhoto and replaced it with OpenStreetMap Foundation's mapping data.

Recently, Apple purchased C3 Technologies, a company that makes 3-D maps using unclassified technology for missile guiding systems, so we kind of have an idea what the new map will look like in iOS 6. Apple also decided to change the map app's interface as well. For example, the refresh button will have a different color scheme.

Trillion FPS Camera

MIT researchers invented a new camera that can capture videos at the speed of light. It takes about a nano second to capture light travelling through a bottle but it takes over an hour to collect the data. This new piece of technology will cost $250,000 and I think the video below will have much clearer explanation than any other words could describe.

Xbox 360 taking control to next level: Kinect

You've probably heard a few things about the Kinect here and there. Kinect is basically a full body controller. With Kinect, you now don't need a physical controller to control the Xbox 360 but just your body including your voice. The Kinect can detect gestures like kicking and jumping. And once you're done playing games, you can sit back on your couch and just navigate around by telling it what to do. This technology could become a good way for to exercise like how Wii Sport did for many families.

Facebook bringing App Center

Facebook is currently planning on bringing an App store for people using Apple's iPhone and Google's Android software. The store will be called App Center and it will have be displayed in news feed that Facebook use. The sole purpose of creating the App Center is to help people find the apps that's right for them with more convenience. A lot of people find it extremely difficult to find apps that are actually useful in their everyday life.

Somewhat similar to the Apple's App Store, the App Center will filter out the apps that does not meet the high quality standard. Each app will have a page with details to help people determine whether the app is worth downloading. Each app will also be monitored using multiple signals such as users' feedbacks and engagement.

The App Center is also a good practice for developers because they will be actively engaged with the users and will be highly motivated to improve the quality of their apps. I personally like the idea that Facebook is bringing both Apple's App Store and Android market together.

Samsung's 55 inch OLED TV showcased

Samsung Electronics unveiled the mass produced 55 inch OLED TV (ES9500) at 2012 Samsung Premium TV Showcase. OLED HDTV Prototype was seen at the CES earlier this year and it seems like the OLED TV has been finalized and is being mass produced. Samsung also showed off some of the features in the OLED TV like Smart Dual View technology, which is like the Dual Play in LG's 3D TVs where you can see two separate screens on one display.

Mountain Lion OS coming sooner than expected

Few months ago, Apple announced a new OS X for Mac, Mountain Lion. It's a brand new featuring a lot of handy tools that were presented in the iOS 5, such as notification center, reminders, and iMessage. The Beta version of iMessage for Mac is actually available on the Apple website.

This OS was originally to be released in summer but a report from AppleInsider states that Apple are now hiring and training new AppleCare employees, which means the OS will be released within weeks. So if you're planning on upgrading to the new Mountain Lion OS, I suggest you do a backup and a few maintenance to boost the performance and start fresh.

Portable USB charger allows weeks of smartphone use

One of the biggest problem with today's technology is that it doesn't stay on for too long. We may now have a solution for that dilemma. A company called Lilliputian Systems created a portable fuel cell USB charger that can charge your phone 14 times before having to refill the recyclable cartridge. It uses butane to generate power and can charge anything that has USB port, such as MP3 players.

This charger will be sold under the brand name of Brookstone and is currently the first portable USB power source in the market. The price will most likely cost somewhere between $100 and $200, with the cartridges less than $5.

Next Xbox production in process

It has been reported from IGN that a Texas electronics company started the production of the next generation Xbox, also known as Xbox 720. The same company has been producing the previous Xbox model, Xbox 360 as well as the original Xbox. With all that said, Microsoft stated that the Xbox 720 won't be released at this year's E3 gaming convention.

According to reports by a few technicians, the Xbox 720 will have GPU based on ATI's Radeon HD 6670 and also support 3D technology, 1080p HD output, multiple displays and DirectX 11, making it much more powerful than its predecessor.

Disney bringing touch to the next level

With all the smart phones and even some non-smart phones featuring touchscreens, it's about time that there is some sort of enhancement in the particular technology. This next generation touch technology that Disney is working on will be able to detect more than just a finger or multiple fingers, but a full hand grasp and many other gestures.

How does this technology work? By using a sensing circuit to monitor the changes in electrical signal when touched by a conductive material such as human finger. And by using multiple frequencies the system can distinguish variety of gestures. The video below will give a clear explanation of the system.

HTC One V coming to US soon

If you have been waiting for the HTC One V, you've only got a few more months to go. HTC just announced that the One V will be showcased at the CTIA this week. However, that is not all they've said; they also announced that the One V will be available to US customers later this summer.

In case people are wondering what kind of phone this is, I'll explain just a little to give you guys an idea. Powered by 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, HTC One V is will be shipping with Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The display has 480 x 800 pixels and 3.7 inch screen with 252 ppi pixel density.

Now this is what I call a five star hotel

As you can see in the picture above, this hotel features several futuristic sci-fi styled discs and one of them is located 21 stories underwater. For those of you who would prefer not to stay underwater, which I don't see why not because underwater is where it's at, you can enjoy the floating swimming pool at the disc above water.

I know a lot of people are thinking this looks too good to be true. Drydocks World, a prominent building company signed a contract with BIG InvestConsult, a Swiss firm, to turn this fantasy into a reality in Dubai. This Discus Hotel isn't the first underwater hotel but it definitely is the most lavish one. If you're lucky, you might be able to enjoy your summer in this gorgeous hotel in your lifetime.

Latest iPhone 5 rumor

With the Samsung Galaxy S III out, it's inevitable that people will talk about the next iPhone, Samsung's biggest competitor in smart phones. And here is the most recent rumor out right now.

According to the rumor, the next generation iPhone, code named "iPhone 5" will have a 4 inch display screen and it's quite a surprise because Apple has never gone bigger than 3.5 inch with their phone. I guess Apple couldn't resist all the bigger smart phones coming out. It was originally reported by Reuters that the next generation iPhone will have a 4.6 inch display but Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White stated that it will be 4 inch. The same assumption was made by iMore editor-in-chief Rene Ritchie, who predicted the iPhone 4S while everyone else believed the iPhone 5 was coming at the time.

Also, as you can see in the picture, the design of the iPhone 5 looks different front and back. In addition to the hardware changes, we are hoping to see a few other potential features added to the iPhone 5: 3D camera, 3D GUI, OLED Screen, LTE, iWallet, and A6 Processor. In my personal opinion, I think we'll be seeing only a few of these features in the next iPhone.

Apple recently invented a 3D camera for iOS devices which can take photos and videos. 3D is not the latest technology but I'm sure Apple will find a way to make it pop out from all the other 3D camera technology out there. On January 12, 2012 the 3D GUI was released for iOS devices. What the 3D GUI does it will detect gestures and hand movements. I personally think, even though technology is constantly improving, all these 3D features are a little too much for just a cellphone. Maybe for tablets, it'd be something people would want.

If Apple does switch over to OLED from LCD, it would be pretty amazing with the retina display. Samsung recently publicly announced that they aim to switch over to OLED from LCD so as a rival it sure is the right thing to do. Apple has been buying a lot of materials from Samsung last year which includes LCD panels. It has been reported that Apple will be buying even more materials and just from speculation, Apple will be buying more expensive display materials.

I think we're going to see LTE on the iPhone 5 because the New iPad already has it, meaning they have the technology for it. However, there is still a possibility of Apple not supporting LTE on the iPhone 5 because it will make the phone slightly thicker, which is why the iPhone 4S didn't get LTE.

iWallet is a technology that lets a user control all their banking accounts easily. It allows the user to see the credit card profiles, statements, and messages from the bank. I think this feature might be a little skeptical because it's going to need a really tight security or else there will be a lot of people losing a lot of money.

The latest iPhone currently runs a A5X Chip which was a mistake because it wasn't powerful enough to handle the retina display and apps like Siri. I'm almost positive Apple will work very hard to put improve their processor since the quad core processor seems to be trending in smart phones these days.

I know Apple always leaks out thousands of rumors and the product itself is quite different but I know some people are like me and they just want to see something they can wait for. I can't wait to see the next iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy S III unpacked

On Thursday, Samsung just announced their latest mobile phone, Galaxy S III, at a press event in London. It has been months since it was first announced and it is finally here. There has been quite a few improvements or modifications made on this particular device and it is pretty amazing.

Looking at the hardwares, the screen is about half an inch bigger than the Galaxy S II. It has a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED screen, which is a lot bigger than the the iPhone 4S 3.5 inch display. Not only is the screen bigger, the phone itself got thinner and lighter (8.6 mm thick and weighing 133 g). The screen is using PenTile Matrix and the resolution is 720 x 1280 pixels with 306 ppi pixel density. It also has Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 with Mali-400MP GPU. The camera on this phone has 8 MP and can take photos of 3264x2448 pixels. In the back of the phone, you'll find 2,100 mAh battery and a microSD and microSIM card slots. The phone's hardware features are outstanding but I gotta say the design of the phone is quite disappointing.

Now if we take a look at the software, you're going to see a lot of cool new features Samsung added to the Galaxy S III. It's running Ice Cream Sandwich version of Google's Android OS but Samsung built these features on top of it:

-"Smart Stay" This feature prevents the phone from dimming automatically as part of the power saving routine. It uses its front facing camera to detect whether someone is looking at the phone and determines whether to dim the phone or not. Now you won't have to go through the troubles of tapping your phone so it doesn't lock.

-"S Voice" It's just like 'Siri' on iPhone 4S. It's just a voice recognition and response technology. Some people still find this technology useless because you always have to confirm your commands. But let's say you're driving and you need to check your email or send a message to your friend; just say "Hi Galaxy" and it'll go into the S Voice mode. However, unlike Siri, S Voice does not talk back to you; it just shows up on the screen, meaning you have to actually look away from the road to see the response.

-This next feature seems pretty cool. While you're texting someone you may find yourself wanting to continue the conversation with that person on the phone. With the Galaxy S III, you can just put the phone by your ear while it's still on the text message screen and it'll call the person.

-"Smart alerts" This is also a pretty cool feature. If you ever leave your phone unattended for a little bit, like if you out for a jog or a quick trip to a mart, and while you're gone the phone rings, the smart alerts will tell you the phone rang when you come back and pick it up by vibrating. I know some people instantly check the phone or does not even leave it in the first place but I think there are a lot of people like me that might find this feature useful.

Overall, I can see that this latest product has a great potential and it has shown a great improvement from its predecessors. I'm really not feeling the design though, it looks like the phone was made in the year 2005. It's a really cool phone but it's not leading the market or anything, just appropriate for the current technology.
